first i was supposed to bring an end to the witches of new orleans. eventually they just decided that meant i was going to bring about the destruction of the city altogether.
then there was a different prophecy that wasn't about me at all, but about the destruction of my family.
then there was the mess with The Hollow, the thing that possessed me when i was a kid. that's what ended up in my dad before he died.
i get why The Hollow would make people think that. a lot of people died. the proximity of pieces of her spirit made my throw up snakes, killed flowers, made it rain blood.
it was a lot of magical divination that got changed as things happened.
More of a construction built from that person's wants and desires. It's something that exists in my world. If someone's desires are reinforced enough by the world around them, they can create a structure of their own.
I believe many people say that, and yet, you're upset you lost your father again.
For what it's worth, I've found that such things tend to have an external force hoping to make it happen. If you stop that force, you stop the perceived inevitable end result.
I'll tell you a secret, then. Not only was I detective, but I worked privately for a politician aiming to become the Prime Minister of Japan. By allying myself with him, I was able to live comfortably. I had my means of getting into a better position with his campaign than most would, and here, I have to start from nothing.
I wouldn't say I relied on him, but he had strength that could benefit me. Here, I've joined up with Katelin Jovavich's campaign to benefit myself.
The strong are often blind to anything beyond their own noses, so to speak. You can use that, while counting on your own resilience to make it through.
[What had he planned to do after he was done with Shido? Akechi said a lot of things he'd like to do in interviews: travel around the world, do schooling somewhere else. Live his life. They were vapid responses from a person who never thought he'd have any of it. He never saw them as things he'd do, but the things that someone should say.
Her response jars him in making him recognize it again, just as the version of him formed by the metaverse had dangled his lack of freedom in his face. He was nothing but a puppet for Shido, one in denial of how he would be tossed away.
He considers her response. His goal with Shido was personally motivated, but would he do that with most? Dressing it up the right way could lead to him having further opportunities based on it.]
I'd say it depends.
If you need to be rid of that person, then there are ways to make that happen. But otherwise, you can find a means of working it so that you can cut ties cleanly. Too many messy ... disconnections start to stand out, and the goal is to never have their eyes on you in a suspicious way.
[Something he also failed at, too caught up in what he believed.
This is an approach learned from many mistakes.]
There's always something to value in letting them think you need them, especially when you can find a way to make it more equal. Sometimes removing that is just as good as getting rid of them. Incompetence follows.
I know it all sounds rather convoluted, but I've seen more simplistic takes. I've learned that you need to be more thoughtful.
[Akechi does not add that his take was the simplistic one.]
[In her current emotional state, she'd rather just strong-arm someone into doing what she needed, but that's probably only going to make things worse for her.]

It sounds like I would have to learn to be okay with people underestimating me so that I could take advantage of it.
It makes sense, though.

I am, however, of the belief that you can seem harmless and completely for someone's cause. Loyal. There is a way to sell that.
